I came across these photos the other day and they brought back such great memories that I had to share them.
Last year Sunshine and I headed out to Lake Anna with some good friends, and it turned into one of those perfect days that still makes me smile when I think about it.
The morning started with a fishing rod in my hand and a big grin on my face. I managed to pull in this little fighter (pictured above) right off the dock. It wasn’t a monster, but it was plenty of fun — and the smile on my face said it all. There’s just something about that first catch of the day that gets everything off to a great start.
Later we climbed aboard the boat for a relaxing ride across the lake. The sky was bright blue with those big fluffy clouds, the water was calm, and the company was even better. Sunshine looked beautiful in her flower crown and lei — she always knows how to bring extra joy to any outing. I was the lucky guy sitting next to her, soaking it all in.
We laughed, talked, enjoyed the breeze, and made more good memories with friends. Those simple days — no big agenda, just sunshine, water, and good people — are the ones that really fill the tank.

Life has taught me (especially after my Navy years) that the best moments often aren’t the fancy ones. They’re the ones where you’re present, laughing with the person you love, and grateful for the little things: a fish on the line, a boat ride on a beautiful lake, and the woman who still makes every adventure better just by being there.
Here’s to more days like that at Lake Anna and wherever the road (or water) takes us next.
What about you? Do you have a favorite simple day spot that still brings back good memories? Drop a comment below — I’d love to hear about it.
