Snowed In: A Comedic Chronicles of a Non-HOA Resident

Well, it’s Monday, and Mother Nature decided to throw a full-day party of snow, ice, and sleet right in our neighborhood. I’m feeling every year of my existence as I’ve managed to keep two-thirds of the driveway clear. We’ve dodged the power outage bullet so far, but the DMV (District of Misery and Vexation) has declared today a “snow day.”

Ah, snow days. I remember them fondly from school, never imagining they’d be a thing in adulthood. Not complaining, just stating the obvious.

Back to the update. Moving to a non-HOA street has its perks, but one downside is the mystery of when the street will be cleared. It’s a gamble I took during the 2025 house-hunting frenzy. My neighbors claim they’ve never seen such a weather spectacle in their time here. While I’m not personally responsible for this blizzard, we’ll keep an eye on the neighborhood mood.

The DMV’s elite weather service is warning us of potential mass power outages and freezing temperatures for the next few days. As I mentioned in a previous post, we’re as prepared as we can be. We’ve got supplies, a few pounds of coffee, and our internet is still going strong. Basically, we’re as ready as we’re going to get.

In times of isolation, I’m grateful for a few things:

  1. A flat driveway
  2. A snow shovel
  3. A loving wife
  4. Stretching

Our previous abode had a driveway with a slight incline, making ice clearing a dangerous game of “slip and slide.” The flat driveway is a blessing, and ice melt is my new best friend.

The site was beautiful, the cold was biting, and the clearing was tough. But hard work pays off, and we’re cozy and safe in our warm home.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day. Stay warm out there!
